INtake Publishes Local Comics
May 10th, 2007It’s May 10th and that means INtake has run the first of it’s comic strips submitted by local comic creators. From Intake’s website: “Created by the talented people at the Indianapolis Star, INtake is an independently distributed publication designed to cover the lifestyle, entertainment and news issues important to young professionals living in the metropolitan Indianapolis area.”
And it’s free.
May 10th’s issue of INtake included comic strips created by Ron Braun of Toon it Up and Amory Abbot and Ben Roe of Rogue Robot. Today, I’m proud to present Ron’s strip with Ben and Amory’s strip posting on Monday.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

Man, great work…and I’ve seen what Robin’s gonna run with, too. Fantastic stuff. I just e-mailed Fes to tell him to redo ours into the strip format, instead of that weird vertical thing we had before. And to do one with all three characters first, instead of just Eileen…man, you guys are gonna make us look bad, otherwise!

Nice comics so far, everybody. Gotta ask if Ron has pictures of the INtake staffers in compromising positions, considering his stuff’s run all three weeks now!
Ron and Lee, you guys may have exclusive spots now. Robin pulled the ULG stuff, and decided to enter it in an art contest instead. Not sure what the Rogue Robot guys are doing. As for myself, Fes just can’t seem to get the hang of the format INtake wants, having worked the full-page style pretty much exclusively before now. So it doesn’t look like any Ardra comics are gonna be printed, I’m sorry to say.
Did Sam submit anything?

I’ve submitted a couple but haven’t seen them yet.

Please submit some more comics Sam! Not that I don’t want to share the spotlight with Ron every week, I just don’t know if I have can double my comic production with the other commitments I’ve got on my time. If we still have RR and RA submitting, I can keep it to twice a month.
Please submit Comics guys! I can’t do it alone… )-:

How does one submit a comic?

Well, INtake e-mailed us back in April about running our comics. We all just replied and sent in strips to their size format. I’ll e-mail you the details.

Hey, everyone!
I’m sorry to hear that participation is so low and especially that Sam has yet to have a strip printed.
Sam, have you thought about checking to see if they did in fact receive your emailed comics or would you like me to ask them? Let me know and I’ll help any way I can.
Jason, is there something I can do to help get yours going? If you’re doing the writing, shouldn’t that dictate the format/size and make it pretty easy for Fes or am I missing something?
Bummer on Robin. I was looking forward to seeing how hers translated into the smaller format.
By the way, yes, Jason, I must have some blackmail material the staffers at INtake but I’m not quite sure what it is. I’ll have to check out the backgrounds of photos I’ve taken to see if I inadvertently took some incriminating shots! I’ll let you know!

They confirmed with me that they received my files. Maybe I’m just not funny. :-\
Either way, I’m still working on stuff. If they end up not running them, it’s still good practice in a different format, and I can keep ‘em for my own site as a buffer.

Well, Fes spelled some stuff wrong…he was working off pencil sketches, and it was sort of a rush job, so it didn’t look so good. Now he’s moving, and will be out of action until July, probably. Thus the month of guest comics. (BTW, Ron, I’ll try to get that script to you soon..Been kinda running low on one-shot ideas lately, but I think I have something in mind now. And Lee, if you can contribute some art, that would be cool too.)
It’s weird how I work with my artist. I usually just send him inked sketches, and he works from those, doing layouts however he sees fit. Nothing very detailed. I’m not picky, except for the fact that I’m a spelling Nazi. With Trevor, we had the “giant secret web page o’ sketches”, with probably 30 of ‘em on there, but I usually just e-mail ‘em one at a time to Fes. He’s STILL working on stuff I drew during the Trevor era!
If I can remember, I’ll bring some of the original sketches to the next meeting. Just so everybody can see how crap becomes decent looking!

I just sent another one. I’m not sure if it’s doing any good, but I’ll keep trying anyway.
